Before our stay at Twitchen House Holiday Park in North Devon, we found limited information about Twitchin House Touring and Camping, which prompted us to share our experiences.
Our first-hand account from our stay in June 2024 aims to provide a comprehensive guide and review, ensuring future travellers have a detailed insight into what awaits them.
This post covers the camping and touring facilities, we have another post about the activities at Twitchen House Park, you may want to see too.
Table of contents
From tranquil moments surrounded by nature to adventures both within and outside the park, we will take you through every aspect of our short break. Whether planning a family getaway, a romantic escape, or a solo exploration, join us as we uncover the unique charm that makes Twitchen House a great destination for a UK break.
Twitchen House Holiday Park
Upon entering Twitchen Park’s winding driveway in our car, we were taken in by the lush surroundings. Nature’s beauty in its purest form unfurled before us, guiding us towards the heart of the park – Twitchen House.
Twitchen House surprised us not only in size but also with its grand architecture and historical charm. It is a beautiful building in a well-preserved state, a perfect mix of history and modern vibes.
Reception
Despite arriving an hour early, our excitement to explore more of the site before checking in was met with warm hospitality from the get-go. As we entered reception, we were greeted with welcoming smiles and a willingness to check us in early.
The check-in process was seamless, setting a positive tone for what was promising to be an unforgettable stay at Twitchen Park. The staff were kind and efficient, which added to our initial impression that this place wasn’t just about its visual appeal but also about creating a memorable experience for its guests from the moment they arrived.
Booking
We booked our holiday at Twitchen House Holiday Park directly through Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park (their bigger sister site). The sister sites, Woolacombe Bay and Easewell Farm are nearby, and you can enjoy the entertainment and amenities there.
You can stay in one of their top-of-the-range static caravans, book an electric touring pitch for your caravan/motorhome/campervan, or go back to basics with a basic camping pitch. We parked our VW campervan on a touring electric grass pitch during our visit. It was the week after the school holidays, so it was a cheap break for us, and it was nice and quiet, too! Booking online is simple.
The only negative I would mention is being unable to choose the position of pitch you want during booking. However, I wonder if you call them after booking if they may be able to help with that. It was our first time, and we did not have a preference!
Campsite Map
Here is a copy of the Twitchen House camping and touring map and where we stayed. All of the green blocks shown are for electric pitches.
H and I were for hardstanding/all-weather pitches suitable for large caravans, and motorhomes.
The first 3 rows of K were better for campervans and smaller caravans with grass pitches.
The general camping green area of K was for tents and was quite hilly, so I would not recommend it for a campervan!
Our Pitch
On arrival, we were given location K15, circled above. We have a VW campervan to which we attach a two-bedroom tent and awning, so we got to work setting up our pitch. It had plenty of space, 10x10m, to be precise was level so no need for chucks. It includes a fresh water tap and electric hook-up.
We had no direct neighbours next to us, which gave us some privacy. This area was perfectly situated near the toilet, shower and washing block.
Twitchen House Holiday Park Campsite Facilities
When we settled into our pitch, it was clear that Twitchen House Holiday Park’s upkeep was fantastic, not only at reception and the static caravan areas but also in the touring and camping grounds. Setting a relaxed and inviting vibe, perfect for chilling out and returning to nature.
This was a beautiful view from the top of the camping field of Twitchen House Touring and Camping site; our camper and tent pitch can be seen in the right middle of the image. The camping toilet block, whose roof you can see in the middle of the image, is also visible.
Toilets
There were plenty of toilets and sinks available. The maintenance team deserves a special mention for their dedication to keeping these facilities in pristine condition. These facilities are some of the best we’ve encountered during our travels.
The men’s and ladies’ toilets were in the same block, opposite each other. The picture shown above is just the ladies, but the men’s was pretty much the same (with the addition of urinals)
Showers
A sink and mirror within each shower cubicle means you can care for all your washing and grooming needs in one place without moving between different areas. Whether returning from a day exploring the beautiful surroundings or waking up on a chilly morning, you’re guaranteed a warm shower waiting for you.
Sauna & Steam Room
This is the first camping block I have stayed at that offers a sauna and steam room within the touring/camping shower block area, I was very impressed!
They are open 10 am-12 pm, then 4 pm-6 pm.
Plate Washing
A large room next to the shower blocks is dedicated to plate washing, with plenty of sinks for everyone! Like everywhere else, it was always pristinely clean!
Laundry Room
There are two laundry areas for those who need to do their laundry while enjoying their stay. One is located within the camping and touring area, offering easy access for guests on the move. The other is next door to the Nisa shop.
In these facilities, large washing machines cost £4.80 per use, and tumble dryers cost £2.80. Both accept coins for operation (prices correct in June 2024).
This makes planning and budgeting for your laundry needs during your stay easy. Additionally, an iron and ironing board are provided free of charge. Ensuring you can look your best with minimal fuss, whether heading out for an adventure or a relaxing meal onsite.
Dogs
Well-behaved dogs are welcome at the campsite but must be kept on a lead. They are also welcome in most parts of Twitchen Park, even in the restaurant area!
Wi-Fi
Free Wi-Fi was available on-site, but in all honesty, it was not very good! I used my mobile Wi-Fi as a hotspot. I am on EE, and there was a good signal throughout the site. The O2 signal was not as good.
I recommend downloading any music, films, or series at home before you go away. We came prepared with a few bits downloaded but found we didn’t even need them. We had such fun-packed days, and the bingo and entertainment kept us entertained until we went to bed!
